Krzysztof Penderecki, in spite of having been one of the most respected and influential figures in the world music scene in the second half of the twentieth century, persists in being it in our days. The Metropolitan's Concert of Anniversary is thus honored with its presence. It is an opportunity to listen closely to this extraordinary Polish musician, in the double condition of conductor and composer. He is accompanied by the Japanese violinist Sayaka Shoji in the interpretation of his 2nd Concerto for Violin, which he dedicated in 1995 to Anne-Sophie Mutter. The title Metamorfoses that is read in the score has no relation with the work that R. Strauss composed in 1945. Instead, the name is justified by the gradual transformation of the ideas that flourish in the solo part, simultaneously lyric and technically virtuous. The second part of the program gives rise to one of the most popular symphonies ever. Antonín Dvorák's Symphony No. 9 was premiered in 1893, a year after the Bohemian musician settled in New York. There are four stages full of enthusiasm for the "New World", but they do not forget the centennial tradition from which they come.
